No Useless Skill if you Survive by It. Says Headteacher – Hillside College Mukono

“No useless  skill if you survive by it”, noted the Headteacher of Hillside College Mukono, during a books making session held at the school by Gain Confidence Africa, whereas many youth today are being dragged into gambling, drug abuse and all sorts of criminal activities, the vice is due to lack of income-generating skills that can attract creativity among the many youths. The hands-on sessions aimed at equipping the students with skills on how to make counter books that they can write in during their academics and also as an income-generating project.

Over 35 students from senior one and two together with their respective teachers were trained during the Hands-on session held at the school for two days in Mukono district. The beneficiaries (students) of the programme applauded their school for having allowed Gain Confidence Africa a platform into their school which has seen them not only gain confidence but has also helped them to learn and develop income-generating skills while they pursue their secondary education.

Commenting about the programme, madam Sharon Buteme and Angela Nabukalu both of whom are students’ teachers doing their school practice at the school, praised the project for the extra skills it provided to them stating that, the skills will make them teachers with a difference wherever they be deposited as teachers.

Hillside College Mukono, is one of the beneficially schools from the Gain Confidence Africa youth skilling programme in Uganda in Mukono district and since the programme launch in 2016, the students’ progress in the areas of training is of golden colours.

Many students as a result of the project, are currently preparing to start to open up saving bank accounts to start saving in preparation to carry out the income generating projects in future as trained among others include cookery and the latest. The Headteacher thanked Gain Confidence Africa for making them one of the model school of the programme in the district.
